THE ROLE OF RELIGION AND RELIGIOUS VALUES IN BASIJ OF PUBLIC OPINION IN IRAN AFTER ISLAMIC REVOLOUTION

Abstract

This essay is a studying the structure of the social mentality of the Iranian society in establishment situation of political Islam discourse. After the event of the Islamic revolution in Iran, Political Islam as the central ideology of the new political system gained a dominant and almost incontestable position. Political disputes constituted in the following years led to the genesis of particularly diversified religious interpretations of Political Islam. Therefore, during the years we have confronted different understandings of religion. These narrations, regarding the important role of religion in the social mentality, lead the public opinion into a kind of agency with the final purposes of the reproduction of current order legitimacy. This essay selecting the analytical field of the presidency elections in three periods (first, fifth and seventh) analyses the said mechanism. The method proposed here is that of discourse analysis.
