TEHARN METROPOLITAN IN THE MIRROR OF URBAN POLICY MAKING

Abstract

Studies on urban policy making are widespreading in the developed countries. However, these studies have not been widely established in Iran yet. This article is, therefore, an attempt to attract the attention of specialists and students of public policy in Iran on the importance of such studies. Tehran, one of the largest metropolitans of the world, rightly provides a relevant context to capitalize and apply what has been learned elsewhere with reference to the urban policy studies. In this article, Tehran is first described in general terms and its various aspects of importance are emphasized and then some of its major problems are discussed. The author tries finally to explore the potentials of urban policy studies in providing solutions to the global and sectorial problems of Tehran.
