Abstract

As an indicator of the general conditions of research and publication in International
Relations in Iran, this article has taken the articles published in the Journal of
Faculty of Law and Political Science (JFLPS), the University of Tehran. As the
oldest academic journal in the field of Political Science and International Relations
in Iran, the articles published by JFLPS can give a portrait of what has been going in
the field during the last four decades. The articles published in this journal from
1970 to 2011 have been studied in two major aspects: scholarship and scholars’
characteristics. The findings show how scholars/authors are distributed in terms of
academic position, gender, degree, institutional affiliation, and departments. They
also show the distribution of various issues, geographical locations, methods, and
types of articles. Some hypotheses are suggested to explain the findings and some
institutional modifications have been proposed to improve the existing conditions of
publication in the field.
